WhatxTime shows the exact current time in cities and countries around the world, and gives you practical tools to convert times, compare cities and plan meetings across time zones.
How our times are calculated
Every local time on WhatxTime is calculated on our server from the city’s IANA time zone identifier (for example Africa/Lagos or Europe/London) using the official IANA Time Zone Database. This database records every daylight saving rule and historical change that governments have announced, so the times shown follow the rules in force for the exact date you are looking at.
We never store a “current time” or a fixed UTC offset for a city. Offsets and daylight saving status are calculated each time you load a page, and the clock in your browser re-synchronises with our server.
Our data
City and country information comes from open datasets: the Countries States Cities Database (ODbL 1.0), GeoNames (CC BY 4.0) and mledoze/countries (ODbL 1.0). Public holidays come from the open-source date-holidays rule set (CC BY 3.0). Every timezone identifier is validated during import.
If you spot an error, please contact us with the city and the problem.
