Frequently asked questions about world time

How do I check the current time in any city?
Search for a city in the box at the top of any page, or browse the country and city directories. Each city page shows the local time, date, UTC offset and daylight saving status.
Are the times updated automatically?
Yes. Times are calculated on our server from each city’s IANA time zone, including daylight saving rules. The clock on the page then keeps ticking in your browser and re-synchronises with the server automatically, including at the moment clocks change.
Why do cities have different time zones?
Time zones follow regional rules, geography and government decisions. Some countries use several zones, some use offsets of 30 or 45 minutes (like India or Nepal), and many change their clocks for daylight saving time.
What is UTC?
Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the global reference time. Every time zone is described as an offset from UTC — for example West Africa Time is UTC+01:00.
